Rose Run Parker, with Ricky Macomber Jr. at the lines, shattered an eleven-year-old record for two-year-old geldings on the trot when he powered home a winner in 1:57 in the featured event at Hoosier Park Racing & Casino on Saturday, August 24. Notching his third win of the season, Rose Run Parker captured the opening division of the $30,000 Indiana Gold Sire Stakes in a lifetime best effort. The previous track record of 1:58 was established by Big Boy Josh and Charlie Conrad in August of 2002. The 1:57 victory marks the thirteenth track record that has been lowered over Hoosier Park’s seven-eighths mile oval in 2013. It was also a training double for Hoosier Park’s leading trainer, Ron Burke, as he captured both of the $30,000 Indiana Gold Sire Stakes divisions for two-year-old trotting colts and geldings on the evening’s 14-race card.
Unhurried from the gate, Rose Run Parker settled along the rail in fifth while the battle for the early lead was hard fought. Meadowbrook Mike and Brad Hanners got the first call through the opening quarter in :28.1 before yielding the lead to Cerveza Dinero and Pete Wrenn. The field began to tighten as they reached the half mile time in :58.4 and Macomber had Rose Run Parker out and firing. The three-year-old gelding cleared to the front through the three-quarter clocking in 1:28.3 before unleashing a :28.2 final panel to get the win by two lengths. The heavily favored, Justice Jet and Ed Hensley rallied sharply after a trip off the pace to get up for the second place finish while Meadowbrook Mike held on for third. Rose Run Parker returned $6.20 to his backers for the victory.
Trained by Ron Burke, Rose Run Parker has now won three of four lifetime outings while bankrolling over $35,000 for his connections of Burke Racing Stable, Weaver Bruscemi, and W. Haas. Stable mate Winding Hill followed suit in the second split of the $30,000 Indiana Gold Sire Stakes for two-year-old trotting colts and geldings as he rallied sharply from off the pace to score in 1:59.2. With Ricky Macomber Jr. at the lines, the sophomore trotter was able to take advantage of a second over trip to edge out Ladys Big Stormont and Andy Shetler at the wire. Scoring his third win of the season, Winding Hill returned $5.80 at the windows and established a new lifetime best performance with the victory.
Sired by Here Comes Herbie, the freshman colt has now won three of five lifetime outings while bankrolling over $30,000 for his connections of Burke Racing Stable and Weaver Bruscemi.
