ITOBA Racing Stock Sale Offers New Format in 2009
The Indiana Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders Association (ITOBA) will conduct their annual horse sale at Hoosier Park Tuesday, July 28. The format has expanded this season, offering an Under Tack Show Monday, July 27 as well as expanded hours for viewing prior to the event.
Horses for the sale will arrive Sunday, July 26 and be contained in Barn 17, the receiving barn on Hoosier Park’s backstretch. The Under Tack Show will begin at 11 a.m. Monday, July 27, offering buyers a chance to see all horses entered in the sale work under saddle. The show will include an announcer, Jay Holden, and also offer all buyers the opportunity to have access to Barn 17 during the workouts. Hoosier Park’s barn area will also be open to guests of the sale Tuesday, July 28 prior to the sale, which begins at 1 p.m.
The Racing Stock Sale will offer 49 Hip numbers and includes both Thoroughbreds and Quarter Horses. Several two-year-olds are included in the lineup. Two top two-year-olds came out of the sale in 2008, including Geordie, 2008 leading Indiana Bred gelding and Nightly Ritual, 2008 leading Indiana bred filly.
Duane Swingley will serve as the auctioneer with Holden providing pedigrees during the sale. Paul Tinkle and Harley Greene will serve as ringmen. Trevor Schaub will oversee office operations during the sale.
