Holiday Weekend Celebration Slated

A special holiday weekend celebration is planned at Hoosier Park Racing and Casino. Festivities will begin Saturday, Sept. 5 and run through Monday, Sept. 7 for a special Labor Day racing program.

Labor Day racing gets underway at 12:45 p.m. and will include several activities for fans of all ages. Children’s activities will be available outdoors in The Yard beginning at noon. Face painting, a balloon artist, and interactive games will all be provided. Also, Hoosier Park’s mascot, Hoosier Buddy, will also be available throughout the day.

The newly formed Great Eight will also be included in the afternoon’s activities with the “I Win, You Win” contest. Club Centaur Rewards members can swipe their card upon arrival to be entered in the contest. When a jockey from the Great Eight wins a race, one winner will be drawn for a $50 gift card. The “I Win, You Win” contest will continue each Saturday and Sunday throughout the Thoroughbred racing season.

Members of the Great Eight made their first public appearance at the Diamond Rio concert Saturday, Aug. 29. The jockeys, including Julio Felix, Rodney Prescott, Azael De Leon, Alex Estrada, Nelson Arroyo, and Orlando Mojica were introduced at both shows followed by a t-shirt toss to the crowd. Other members of the Great Eight not present at the event are Victor Lebron and Ben Creed, who were both riding at Ellis Park earlier in the day.

The holiday weekend activities will get started on Saturday, Sept. 5 with Wild West Adventure in The Yard. Western fun for the whole family will be provided with activities beginning at high noon. A special exhibition mule race will be conducted between the second and third Thoroughbred race on the card along with a strolling trick roper, mechanical bull, and special treats from the outdoor Western Grille. The afternoon will conclude with Quarter Horse Stakes action featuring the $100,000-guaranteed Grade III Stallion Service Auction Futurity and the $50,000-guaranteed Stallion Service Auction Derby.

Due to the special Labor Day racing program, there will be no live racing conducted Tuesday, Sept. 8 or Wednesday, Sept. 9. The track will also be closed for training on Tuesday, Sept. 8. Racing will resume Thursday, Sept. 10 with the regular scheduled post time of 4:45 p.m.
