"I Win, You Win" Offered During Special Labor Day Card
The new “I Win, You Win” contest got underway Saturday, Sept. 5 with the newly formed Great Eight, which highlights eight of Hoosier Park Racing and Casino’s jockeys throughout the 63-day meet. Each time a member of the Great Eight wins a race, a name will be drawn for a $50 gift card on weekends. All Club Centaur Rewards members are encouraged to swipe their cards as they arrive for horse racing each Saturday and Sunday.
As a special part of the three-program Labor Day weekend, the “I Win, You Win” contest will extend through the Monday, Sept. 7 racing card. A total of 10 races are slated for the afternoon activities with the first post set at 12:45 p.m.
Members of the Great Eight promotion include Orlando “Magic Man” Mojica, Rodney “Hot Rod” Prescott, Alex “The Conquistador” Estrada, Ben “Cowboy” Creed, “Sir” Azael De Leon, Julio Felix “The Horse Whisperer,” Victor “The Victor” Lebron, and “Knockout” Nelson Arroyo. Arroyo was the first jockey to bring home a winner Saturday for the kickoff of the “I Win, You Win” contest, winning the third race on the program.
In addition to the “I Win, You Win” contest on Labor Day, Club Centaur Rewards members will also be available for the Stump Steve contest. One lucky fan’s name will be drawn after race four. The contestant will have the first opportunity to handicap the sixth race on the program. Track Announcer Steve Cross will make a selection from the remainder of the field. If the contestant’s horse beats Steve’s pick, the Stump Steve contestant will win a $50 gift card. The contestant will automatically receive two passes to the Prime Harvest Buffet and a Hoosier Park t-shirt just for playing in the Stump Steve contest.
Because of the additional day of racing Monday, no live racing will be held Tuesday, Sept. 8 or Wednesday, Sept. 9. The regular racing schedule will resume Thursday, Sept. 10 with a first post of 4:45 p.m.
The 15th season of Thoroughbred racing continues through Saturday, Oct. 24 with racing conducted Wednesday through Sunday. First post Wednesday and Thursday is 4:45 p.m. while racing begins at 12:45 p.m. Friday through Sunday.
The highlight of the fall season is the $500,000-added Grade II Indiana Derby, set for Saturday, Oct. 3. The race will be complemented with the $100,000 Michael G. Schaefer Mile, the fourth leg of the $30,000 Don K. Memorial Starter Handicap Series, and two new Indiana stakes. The first running of the Hoosier Breeders Sophomore Stakes and Hoosier Breeders Sophomore Stakes Filly Division will be held for $70,000 each. In all, stakes purses for Derby Day will total $770,000.
