Running Bride Stays Perfect in Miss Indiana
Running Bride and Rodney Prescott kept their perfect record intact Saturday, Oct. 10 to win the $70,000 Miss Indiana Stakes by open lengths. The two-year-old daughter of Cherokee Run is a perfect three for three and adds the Miss Indiana to her stakes win in the $70,000 City of Anderson Stakes last start out.
Starting from the extreme outside post 10 in the seven-horse field, Running Bride broke sharply for Prescott and was immediately noticed from the outside. My Cherokee and Nelson Arroyo took the early advantage on the inside and controlled the tempo over the sloppy track surface. Edgewise and Orlando Mojica were right at their backs along the inside.
Around the turn, Running Bride began to inch away from her competitors and as the filly turned for home, she was already well in hand for the victory. She continued her dominance to the finish line, winning by seven and one-half lengths. Edgewise held strong for second over Dreamer of Dreams and Diego Rodriguez for third.
“When she (Running Bride) gets out away from the others, she begins to relax,” said Prescott. “I kept after her just a little today so she didn’t get too relaxed, but she was still alert all the way through the stretch.”
“This is a perfect filly,” said Prescott. “She (Running Bride) does everything correctly. She is very professional and never does anything wrong. The only thing that I had a little concern was about the sloppy track today, since she hadn’t run over it before. But again, she handled it well. She’s just a class act.”
Prescott, Hoosier Park’s all-time leading rider, is currently in third place among all jockeys for 2009. The Portland, Ind. native has competed in each of the 15 years of racing at Hoosier Park.
Running Bride now has nearly $100,000 in earnings after three starts for John Lally’s Summerplace Farm. Eddie Kenneally trains the Indiana-bred filly.
