I Is It Solid in Miss Roxie Little Futurity
I Is It and Harold Collins didn’t disappoint in the first running of the $75,000 Miss Roxie Little Futurity Saturday, Oct. 17. The duo glided home under the wire in a time of :17.953 for the 350-yard dash.
Starting in the center of the pack, I Is It hopped out of the gate, but the second step had him moving forward to vie for early positioning. Collins tried to maintain the colt’s momentum and was ahead of his opponents by open lengths. He darted to the inside but remained on the lead and coasted home as the winner over Hooked On Magic and Richard Gillard. Shawne Bay and Juan Delgado finished third.
“He (I Is It) came out of the gate awkward, but recovered,” said Collins. “In another few strides, he ducked in, so I tapped him left-handed and he exploded from there. He’s one of the colts that has looked good from day one when we broke him. He did everything perfect and has always been fast.”
Trained by Hoosier Park’s all-time leading Quarter Horse trainer Ron Raper, I Is It now has three wins in six starts this year. The two-year-old son of Executive Menace was bred by owner Christina Dutil-Zehender. He was a winner in the trials leading up to the Miss Roxie Little Futurity. I Is It increased his bankroll to more than $70,000 with his first stakes win.
Members of the Harry Blake family were on hand to make the trophy presentation. Blake was the breeder of Miss Roxie Little, who garnered numerous track records and stakes wins during her career. Joining the winning connections in the winner's circle were Blake's daughter, Brenda Plass, Bill Plass, Teri, Alyssa, and Mike Burton, Will Bueher, and Jim Childers.
