Mojica Wins Third Straight Title To Set Record

Orlando Mojica set a new standard for jockeys, winning his third straight title and fourth overall following the conclusion of the 2009 Thoroughbred meet at Hoosier Park Saturday, Oct. 24. Mojica is the first jockey to accomplish four titles in the 15-year history of the track, besting Jon Court, who won three back to back titles in 1996 through 1998.

He returned to the top of the charts in 2007 and has dominated the leading rider ranks since that time. With more than 320 career wins over Hoosier Park’s seven-eighths mile oval, Mojica is now ranked sixth all-time on the leader board for jockeys.

Mojica completed the 2009 meet with 75 wins, 22 ahead of second place finisher Fernando De La Cruz. He garnered purse money in excess of $1.4 million and was the only jockey to top the million dollar mark during the 2009 meet. Mojica scored several stakes wins throughout the 63-day meet, including a win aboard Lone Star Cowboy in the $70,000 Hillsdale Stakes and several wins in the Don K. Memorial Starter Series aboard Sea Gaze.

Mojica was presented with his leading jockey award by Jeff Smith, general manager of racing. He was joined by his fiancée, Kristen Miller, and daughter, Yelina, and son, Orlando Jr. Mojica currently resides in Greenfield, Ind. and will ride at Fair Grounds during the winter months before returning to Indiana in the spring.
